Valencia Stars Report: OFF-SEASON # 1

Post by leejay56 » Sat Aug 24, 2013 7:05 pm

The Stars during the off season had a few areas they were looking to improve....Both hitting and another SP were on the list...The Stars didn't see much Starters but did add two quality vet offensive players that will help..

The Stars came to terms with veteran outfielder Tony Álvarez locking up the 34-year-old to a $40,100,000, 4-year deal. The first two years Alvarez will earn 25 million but the last two years his salary drops to 14 million...Álvarez has played in 1188 games with a .290 batting average. Among his 1244 hits are 268 doubles, 17 triples and 138 home runs. He also has scored 667 runs and driven in 655 runs. Álvarez will start in LF and hopefully give this young offensive a boost....

A few years back one of the best hitters in the MBBA was OF Will Simmons..
Injuries starting happening to Simmons back in 06 but the Stars still feel he an help them out as he has a great eye and will get on-base...Simmons has a career batting average of .306, last two years he hit .255 but his OBP was .387..Simmons might not be the .300 hitter he used to be, but he could hit .260 25 doubles 8-10 steals and a .385 OBP...The Stars and Simmons settled on a two year contract worth a total of $5,450,000, Good value for the Stars if he performs....
