As the Valencia dismantling/rebuilding continues, the Stars' front office sent an established but aging 38 year-old starting pitcher Thomas Turner for a reliever prospect named Jonathan Swett.
Turner has posted a 15-24 record over the past two season's with Valencia including an ERA of 3.53 and a WAR of 2.2 over the course of 183 innings last season. While that was good enough to one of the cogs in the Stars' rotation, it was not enough to justify the $31.8M spread throughout the next three seasons for a team that is rebuilding.
In return for sending Turner to Boise, the Stars received Swett, a 20 year-old lefty, who split time between A and AA in the Boise farm system. While his potential stuff is rated at 11 and his fastball/curveball are at 11/10 respectively, his numbers are not mindboggling but he did fashion a 3.44 ERA and truck out 40 during his 36 innings in AA.
The Stars also signed Starting Pitcher, Michael Dixon, 26 days Turner's senior chronologically. With Turner's departure, the fan interest dropped by 4 point. The front office was hoping that signing Dixon would counteract that. The signing did add 3 fan interest points back. Dixon's 5/6/7 ratings for Stuff/Movement/Control has the front office hoping that Dixon will be slightly more than a seat-filler.
With spring training just around the corner, fans will get an initial indication of this set of moves.
