Galaxy Gas 2062.48 - Trade Analysis with Twin Cities

There has been a significant amount of trade activity for Valencia this season when compared to the previous three years since the current front office has taken over. Five trades have been made so far this year. This five-part series is going to do an initial look at how these trades have fared for each of the parties involved.

The third installment of this series is looking at the trade made with Twin Cities. The player once known as the face of the franchise, Miller Shed, was traded to Twin cities for minor leaguers SP Javier Cordova, 2B Tarik bin Fariq, 2B Edgard Gomez and SS Rafael Mendez.

Miller Shed, although only shades of his former self when he had back-to-back 5 WAR seasons still can provide a little bit of a punch. In 2061, Miller saw his average and on-base percentage drop by almost 40 points as his WAR dipped down to 2.6. For the first 34 games in 2062 his average was a paltry .228 and his overall production was falling just short of breaking even on his WAR while having a $5.6M salary. Part of that may have been due to not having the monstrous bats behind him, but the locals wondered if he needed a change of scenery. His overall ratings dropped for 80/80 to 50/50 in roughly 18 months. After putting on the River Monsters uniform, so far it has been a different story. For his first 21 games, Miller has hit .325/.371 while stealing 10 bases and still delicately handling the rawhide out in the field.

For Valencia, Javier Cordova was a last minute throw-in to get the deal done. The 20 year-old is currently in the starting rotation for the Rookie club an has not allowed a run over 14 innings during his two starts while registering 17 strikeouts. With an overall potential of 35, Jose will need a fortuitous bump to make a contribution with the big-league club.

Tarik bin Fariq is also with the Rookie club playing both at first and second base depending on the day. Tarik has an above-average glove and has an overall potential rating of 45 with a potential power rating of 7. So far this young season, Tarik has 4 hits in 9 at bats with a homer.

Edgard Gomez is currently with the AA club playing second base. Edgard's current/overall rating of 35/40 could use a bump for sure, but he does have a contact rating of 6 and is well above average on defense. Look for Edgard to move up to AAA before the end of the season.

Rafael Mendez is playing shortstop on the rookie squad and is hitting .333/.385 with two dingers over his first 8 games. His overall potential rating has dropped from 50 down to 45 but his power potential is still above average at 6 and his defense up the middle is well above average as well.

Initial Grade for Twin Cities: A-. While they gave up four prospects, Miller is showing that he still has some gas in the tank and has helped Twin Cities claim second place so far in the FL Heartland standings.

Initial Grade for Valencia: B-. Valencia acquired four decent prospects for Miller and has knocked off about $7.2M in payroll to help get their finances in order. If one of those prospects get a slight bump, the evaluation could go up to a B. If two of the prospects pan out, then it could edge up toward an A-.

Overall, this trade seems to have helped Twin Cities in the short to mid-term and has a decent chance of helping Valencia two to three years out.

I like Gomez's ratings but OOTP just can't get overalls right imo.
