In May of 2059 while scouring through the free agent list, the Valencia front office picked up closer Steve Wauchope by signing him to a minor league contract. At the time he was a 40/40 guy on overall ratings with Stuff/Movement/Control ratings of 5/4/5 and velocity of 89 to 91 miles per hour.
Steve had spent a little over three years with Buenos Aires club in the GBC totaling a record of 10-7 with 6 saves and roughly a 2.50 ERA.
Now the 28 year-old southpaw side-armer is still sitting at that 40/40 rating and his movement/velocity ratings have increased a notch. He has recorded 67 saves in AAA over the last two seasons while his ERA in 2061 is 1.81 with a WHIP of 1.13 compared to last year’s ERA/WHIP of 4.16/1.51.
Are these numbers from 2061 a fortuitous blip in his career or is there something brewing behind the scouting ratings? His ratings at this point suggest that he would be at the bottom of the heap in a BBA bullpen. The lack of a fourth pitch does not make him an ideal candidate for a relief pitcher conversion. The only real hope is that he could get a bump but at 28 years-old that may not be likely to happen. Also being a lefty side-armer could make it to where he would just be a left-hand hitter specialist.
