With the minor league season completed, it is time to assess some of the Valencia top prospects. Today’s edition will evaluate starting pitcher Shiro Takahashi.
The 19 year old was drafted in the first round with the 15th pick in the 2058 draft. There were high hopes for Shiro as he was immediately sent to the AA club for the 2058 season where was less than stellar for sure with a record of 2-8 and an ERA of 6.54.
During the 2059 season, still with the AA Jamestown club, Shiro saw better results with his record improving to 8-12 in his 29 starts. His strikeout to walk ratio improved from 1.03 (38 K’s/37 BB) to 2.1 (125 K’s/59 BB) and his WAR increased from 0.6 to 1.4 in his first full season at Jamestown where he logged at total of 145 innings.
From a ratings perspective, it seems that Shiro has nearly peaked being rated at 40 of his potential 45. The Valencia front office is still holding out hope that he may get one more bump as he matures instead of getting downgraded. The 2060 season could very well be a make-or-break season for Shiro.
The native from Tokyo likes to go back home for a month during the off-season and visit family which includes working in the family-owned Sushi restaurant. "I can put together a mean King Salmon roll when I get in the mood," Shiro was quoted saying.
Shiro is expected to be moved up to AAA at some point in 2060. Whether it is at the beginning of the season or toward the end of the season is yet to be determined. Overall grade: C+

I like him a lot. AA was just way too aggressive of an assignment for a teenage pitcher IMO. I would have started him at Short A.

Agreed. That was a move before I took the reins of the franchise. Wasn't sure if I should have bumped him down this past season or not.

An xFIP of 5.06 suggests we wasn't struggling all that much.BaseClogger wrote: ↑Fri Jul 05, 2024 2:21 pmI like him a lot. AA was just way too aggressive of an assignment for a teenage pitcher IMO. I would have started him at Short A.
