With 11 games left in most of the schedules, the Frick League playoff picture is shaping up – for the most part anyway.
Nashville punched its playoff ticket early as they are on their way to an 120+ win season while Portland followed suit as it is also over 100 wins. Twin Cities and Sacramento are also guaranteed a playoff spot in 2059. With the final two slots still up for grabs – so to speak – thie is BO’s rundown of each teams chances.
Long Beach (80-71) – Barring a collapse not seen since the 1920’s economy, the Surfers will ride the wave into the playoffs. They only need to win 3 of their last 11 to get into the playoffs. With Bikini, San Fernando and Hawaii left on the schedule this is easily attainable. Even if the Surfers crash and don’t win a single game for the rest of the season, it is hard to believe that two of the teams below them can make it through 11 games without losing 3 games. BO’s prediction is that Long Beach will finish with 86 wins.
Bikini (74-77) – This is where things get interesting. The Head Krillian made a lot of moves for a playoff run and is currently holding down the last spot. They have Long Beach, Hawaii and an ever improving San Fernando team. BO’s prediction for Bikini is 80 wins.
Des Moines (71-80) – Currently 3 games out of the final wild card position, one would say they need to make good on their next two series with Yellow Springs and Louisville prior to finishing at home against Nashville. One wonders how many Nashville starters will be playing in that final series though. BO’s prediction is that Des Moines will fall short and finish at 77-83.
Hawaii (70-81) – Hosting Bikini and travelling to Long Beach may be harder than the other than the previous two teams. Prior to those series though, the Tropics will need to take care of business against San Fernando. BO’s prediction for the Tropics is 75-87.
Valencia (70-81) – Losing the San Fernando series 0-4 was the dagger on the Stars’ 2059 season as they continue to slide with the absence of Miller Shed but the slide was in its initial decent even before his injury. With Portland and Sacramento on the schedule after the Vancouver series is over, we don’t expect much to change. BO’s prediction for the Stars is 74-86.
When all is said and done, it is Bikini’s Wild Card to win or lose. If Bikini takes care of business they are in. If the Krill becomes fish food, then it will not be a matter of who wins the final wild card slot, but who backs in the slowest.
