Trying to salvage a series split with rival Bikini and to pull within two games of the final wildcard spot, Valencia entered into the series finale with a lot riding on the outcome. With 28,742 Krillians and over 16,000 empty seats in the stands the, the two teams squared off for the final time in the 2059 season – with Bikini holding onto the last wildcard slot, what does it take for the Krill to fill the stands anyway?
In the bottom of the first inning, the Krill got onto the scoreboard with a sacrifice fly from Roger Kidd. The Stars responded with three runs in the top of the second. The inning started with the first three Valencia batters being walked. Tyler Conklin then hit a line drive to centerfield to score a run followed by Luis Gonzales hitting a fly ball that dropped into the right centerfield gap to bring in another run. The final run of the inning was the result of a Kevin Lambert sacrifice fly.
The Stars missed an opportunity by leaving the bases loaded in the top of the seventh inning, but luckily it did not come back to haunt them as the Valencia pitching kept the Bikini bats from mounting any serious threats.
Tyler Conklin led the way for the Valencia hitting going 2 for 4 with a RBI.
Juan Garcia (12-13) gained the win while allowing one unearned run over 6.2 innings. Martin Roman, the ageless one at 39 years old, stacked on his 35th save of the season. Samuel Nebraska (8-16) allowed 3 runs over 6 innings on his way to receiving the loss.
