The Stars continue to free fall and keep losing way more than winning...July ended up awfull with a 8-18 and now the California Crusaders are tied in first with the Stars and Vancouver is 2 games out with Hawaii only 3 games out...If the Stars dont start winning they could end up on the bottom by the end of the year.....
With the Stars not hitting outfielder Jonathan Armas got a shot to start and in July he did well hitting .357 with a OPS of .994...Overall Armas is hitting .308 5 17...Armas big weak area is his defense and he really needs to hit well for him to stay in as the Stars are at the bottom of most offensive catagories...
SP Keith Cabana is a good example of a pitcher having a great year with lack of run support...Cabana has started 25 games, he has 19 QS, an ERA of 2.90, and 185 k's 1in 189 innings... You would think he would have 12-14 wins so far this season....But with no run support this season Cabana has a record of 8-10 and has lost some really close games...
The Stars will give 32 year old vet Arthur Jagger a shot on the roster to give the Stars some extra hitting off the bench and platoon in the outfield...Jagger was hitting .335 in AAA ball and has a .298 career batting average in the majors...Jagger hasnt been called up since 1999 when he played for Long Beach...Jagger signed 3-year contract extension worth a total of $2,070,000 with the Long Beach back in 1999 but was released in 2000 and the Stars picked him up with a minor league contract in 2001...

We don't talk about Cabana much around here, but he is a really nice piece.

Talk about going deep into ballgames, too - the guy's averaged 7+ innings a start each of the last three years.

Yeah, that's what I was thinking as soon as I read it again.
