Valencia Star Report: 47-36 (.566) # 2

The Stars through June have surprised allot of people and are in first place after a 79 win season last year...Last season 79 wins was there worst year as they ended up in 3rd place 16 games out...The Stars have a nice 8 game lead over the California Crusaders but there is still allot of baseball to play...
The Stars roster is pretty much the same as last year...They did sign 38 year old vet relief pitcher Marty Powers
to a 2-year contract worth a total of $5,620,000..The Stars gave Powers a shot at been there close and what a great job he has done so far...Powers
is 3-2 with 22 saves so far and a nice 3.29 era...He was nominated to this year all-star team,,,go figure...Not bad for a 38 year old,,, ....
Starting Pitcher Phil Leftwich aslo was selected to this year all-star team...Leftwich is 9-5 and has a 2.57 era....In 19 starts he has thrown 143 innings so far with 96 k's and allowed 129 hits...Last season Leftwich won 12 games and should easiley do better this season....

SS/2B Maddux Vaughn is having himself an all-star type of year...Vaughn a little disappointed that he wasnt selected but is very happy with his numbers so far this year...Vaughn is hitting .319 and has 12 homers and 22 doubles as he is slowing more power..He also has drove in 48 runs this year...Last season his average dropped to .268 and this season Vaughn was in his contract year and the Stars like so much what they see signed Vaughn on a $19,827,000 contract extension that will keep the 32-year-old in town 2 years longer.

Since coming to the Stars CF Jean-Paul Jean-Paul has been very consistant..Last season he hit .277 with 25 doubles, 8 triples and 9 homers...So far this season Jean-Paul Jean-Paul again is hitting .279 but already has 25 doubles and 8 homers...He has also drove in 33 runs...The Stars signed Jean-Paul Jean-Paul for 1 year, which equals $1,060,000 per season. For the Stars to get Jean-Paul for another year at 1 million was a good deal for them...

I couldn't be happier to see Powers doing so well for you.
