The Stars are glad August is over, going only 10-18 during the month and pretty much out of the wild card race as the Stars are now 8.5 games out with only September to play...For the first time the Satrs are facing ending the year below .500 as of now there 3 games under .500...They need to play much better in September to finish above the .500 mark....

MR Michael Smith has been hot the last 16 games...Smith over that time is 1-0 with a 1.15 era....The hard throwing Smith was claimed off waivers in April 1999 and was given a shot by the Stars...Smith last season did okas he went 6-3 plus added 14 saves and had an era of 4.50. Smith had 65 k's in 52 innings but also walked 49 batters....THis year Smith is 2-0 3.00 era and has 37 k's in 30 innings but again has walked 23...His walks still hurt him but still has done well as one of the Stars middle relief pitchers....

26 year old Starting Pitcher Keith Cabana put the finishing touches on a $26,000,000 contract extension that will keep the 26-year-old in town 4 years longer. Cabana over the last 3 years is 45-29 with a 3.25 era...Overall this season Cabana Is 11-10 with a 3.23 era and has 204 k's in 217 innings....Last year Cabana did pick up 17 wins and had 15 the year before....

The never aging outfielder Gary Barr had himself a 4 hit game yesterday vs the Vancouver Mounties..Barr went 4-4 with 1 RBI and 2 runs scored. Overall the 38 year old vet is hitting .321 26 doubles, 4 triples 17 homers and has driven in 64 runs...If he hits 3 more homers it wll be the 15 time in Barr career that he has 20 or more homers in a season....Over all he now has 451 homeruns and has now gone over the 500 double mark with 503 doubles....Barr has one more year left on his contract before he will either be a free agent or retire....

What a career for Barr as he'll coast into the HOF upon his retirement, now he has another injury, however.
