Valencia Star Report: 1999 2-6 (.250) # 2

The Stars started this year very slow going 2-6..The offense was horrible this week as they just couldnt hit...The team batting average was .176, ahhhh horrible...The starting pitching did ok, 3.23 era which was 6th best but the pen did horrible as they had a 11.45 era...Hopefully the hitting will come around so the Stars will win some games....

STAR UPDATE:
SS Maddux Vaughn lead the team in hitting with a .269 batting average...All the other starters hit below .200...OF Gary Barr miss the start of the season but in the few games he did play in he did hit .444 so hopefully with his bat back in the lineup full time it could make a differance....
Vet starting pitcher Joshua Francis Kellogg had a great week with a 1.69 era...He had 8 k's in 16 innings and allowed zero walks...But the Stars gave hime no offense and ended up going 0-2 in those starts.... Kellogg has a career 68 wins, with 14 wins as his high...Kellogg is in his last year with the Stars and the 34 year old looks to be heading to the free agent market after this season...
The Stars did get great news this week...After they signed SP Phil Leftwich to a long term deal the Stars just announced that all-star starting pitcher Devon Hyngary signed a 4 year deal...The 26 year old Hyngary is expected to earn every bit of the $38,600,000 promised him over 4 years. In his career Hyngary has gone 84-42 with an ERA of 2.84, picking up 1378 strikeouts in 1237.2 innings pitched.
The Stars also signed MR Roger Pavlik to a one year deal worth a total of $3,210,000. Pavlik has a career 4.43 era....
