As the Valencia front office was scratching its collective head during this past off-season trying to figure out how to plug holes in the pitching staff during the rebuild season of 2063, one of the old arms on the trash heap was that of 39 year-old Pedro German.
After five seasons of 4.50+ ERA pitching, Pedro was coming off some good years having a 3.02 ERA in Long Beach during the 2061 season and another fine season in 2062 with a 3.00 ERA pitching for Jacksonville while appearing in a meager 36 games.
Pedro was looking for maybe his last hurrah and was not asking for much in the way of salary and it seemed as if everyone else had written him off of the free agent mainstream. By the time the off-season was over, Pedro was still around and the Stars signed him to a one-year/$1.1M contract on Opening Day.
So far in 2063, Pedro has appeared in 35 of the 109 games and is sporting an ERA of 2.37 and a WHIP of 1.22. Pedro has not allowed a run in 27 of his 35 appearances. While his stats do not figure into a lot of a decisions he has a 1-0 record with no saves and four holds he is providing some quality innings to try and get the game from the hands of a struggling rotation into the capable hands of closer Dave Furman.
A certain number of fans that sit near the Valencia dugout at home games can often be seen wearing 'Vote for Pedro' shirts. When asked about this season and what it means to him, the Trashmaster, as he is called by the Valencia faithful stated, "It is good to know that there is some life left in this old arm and that I can get some of these youngsters my kid's age out at the plate."
