Perhaps the most highly anticipated event in Valencia this past week was not the series with Vancouver or the series with Twin Cities where the young Valencia squad won 3 out of the 6 contests. Instead, it was the debut of first round pick Juan Evans with the Single A farm club in Redwood City.
The 19 year-old appeared in 4 games and earned 3 saves in 3 opportunities. Juan worked a total of 6 innings without allowing a run while giving up 3 hits and issuing 2 walks resulting in a WHIP of 1.00. Juan also sent 9 batters back to the dugout via the K in the scorebook during those 5 innings.
Sources close to the front office are saying that Evans will probably remain in Redwood City for one more week prior to being moved to the AA Jamestown squad.
“We are planning on having him ready for Sep call-ups in 2064 at this point. So we can take our time with developing him.” Greathouse stated.
One lesser known fact about Evans is that he is from Cocos, Florida which happens to be the place where GM Greathouse and Bikini GM Collins used to frequent back in their younger days.
