Now that the Spring Training games are over, it is time for Bo to go over his assessment prior to opening day. In this edition we will go over the starting pitchers.

Juan Garcia - Juan was acting like anything but an ace during spring training. He went 1-2 with an ERA of 9.22 and a WHIP of 2.05. In his four starts he gave up multiple runs in less than four innings in three different outings. Juan got off to a slow start in each of his past two seasons and his ratings have not changed to this point. The Valencia faithful is hoping that Juan will once again pick up the pace once the reglar season starts.

Thomas Turner - Thomas went 0-2 with a 5.82ERA/1.35 WHIP. The new Valencia acquisition got roughed up in his last spring training start where he gave up 5 runs in 3 innings. Up to that point he had an ERA of 3.86 over his first 4 starts.

Luis Gonzalez – The other new Valencia pick up went 2-1 with a 3.68 ERA and a 0.91 WHIP. Luis logged the most innings out of the starters with 22 innings of work.

Jonathan Bryant – Jonathan went 2-2 this spring training. His ERA was 5.12 and his WHIP was 1.29. I his first three outings he combined for an ERA of 1.80 but has allowed 9 runs in his last two outings. The Jekyll and Hyde performance is similar to what fans witnessed last year.

Xavier Vargas – Looking closer to an ace than a #5 starter, Xavier went 2-0 this spring with an ERA of 0.95 and a matching WHIP of 0.95. Xavier allowed no earned runs in three of his five outings this spring.

Shiro Takahashi – Shiro was mainly put in as the 6th man in the rotation as an audition and he did quite well with a 3-1 record. Shiro’s ERA was 3.44 with a WHIP of 1.31. Shiro has been sent back to AAA to start the 2061 season.

Peter Dean – Peter did not have a start this spring but will be waiting in the pen in case someone falters or gets injured. Peter had a 1.65 ERA and a 0.86 WHIP in 16 innings of work via the relief appearance route.
