Valencia’s spring training for week 1 resulted in 4 wins and 3 losses.
The Stars opened up spring training with a 3-2 win over Twin Cities. Juan Garcia pitched 4 innings without giving up a run and Lindsay Barber pitched the final inning for the save. Altair Tableriou hit a home run.
Valenica then went on a 13-hit rampage in a 7-0 win over Bikini. Xavier Vargas also pitched 4 scoreless innings allowing the only 2 hits that Bikini would slap out over the course of the day. Tim Bartlett homered in the third inning.
The next day it took extra innings for the Stars to top Omaha by a score of 9 -7 in 10 innings. Koray Kapkin and Jim Inman both slugged one over the fence while Dana Pualani got the win in relief.
The Stars encountered their first loss of the season when the fell short against Des Moines by a score of 7-4. Jim Inman hit his second homer in as many days for the Stars.
Valencia then lost to Hawaii 3 to 1. The Stars only offense came on a Kenny Blackwell RBI single.
The Stars lost their third game in a row when they were defeated 9 – 2 by the Mad Popes of Sacramento. There wasn’t much to report for Valencia on this game outside of the team feeling like a bunch of choir boys when the contest was over.
Valencia returned to their winning ways by beating Louisville 4 to 2. David Pratt got the win in relief while Tim Bartlett and Jose Vargas each hit the long ball.
