The Valencia Stars expect to see Jose Vargas in right field again when 2060 begins. In the arbitration hearing, Vargas was awarded a $3.75M contract instead of the $3.15M that the team was offering. This is compared to his 2059 salary of $1.6M.
Vargas had a breakout year in 2059 hitting .322 in 562 at bats and reeling in an on-base percentage of .376. Jose also was a terror on the basepaths, stealing 44 bases in 50 attempts. Do not be surprised if he is let loose more in 2060.
In the field, Vargas proved to be a dependable glove making only 1 error in 265 chances. He had a zone rating of 4.1 over the past season. When you put it all together, it resulted in a season WAR of 4.5.
When asked about the hearing, Jose said “My salary has more than doubled since last year, but I still feel at $3.75M that I am a bargain.”
When the front office was asked about whether or not Vargas was a bargain, everyone at the GM headquarters was in agreement that they were more than happy about Jose continuing to be a Star.
