Galaxy Gas 2059.32 – Stars Squeak by Sox 2-1

After returning to their winning ways, the Stars played the Black Sox in Chicago for a rematch. Valencia is trying to hold onto a wild card spot at 39-36 while Chicago is trying to climb into contention at 34-40. Valencia did not get much offense going during this contest but it mustered just enough to win by a score of 2 to 1.

Valencia would score all of the runs they would need in the top of the second inning. Tim Bartlett opened the inning by hitting a single deep into the hole at second base. Qadir bin Gamal followed up with another single that made it through the right side of the infield that advanced Tim Bartlett to third base ahead of the throw from rightfield. The Stars then scored when Habib bin Gamal hit Valencia’s third consecutive single of the inning. The Stars added another run when Tyler Conklin hit a sacrifice fly.

Chicago got its only run in the fourth inning when Joe Melucci opened the inning with a single and after the next two batters struck out was doubled home by a hit from Todd Tatlock.

The Sox mounted a serious threat in the bottom of the eighth when Gilberto Falchonelli and Joe Melucci hit back-back singles and advanced to second and third on a groundout. Closer Martin Roman came in and got the strikeout on three pitches to end the inning.

Juan Garcia (6-8) gained the win allowing one earned un in 5 innings of work. Martin Roman recorded hiss 22nd save of the season. Randolph Marable (3-8) took the loss while only allowing 2 runs in 7.1 innings of work.
