Flashback to 17-May-2059 – the Stars just beat the Sacramento Mad Popes by a score of 4 to 3 taking the series 2 games to 1. That win left Valencia with a record of 18-24 and on the verge of wondering if a rebuild and trade block should be I order for the first year GM (at least his first in Valencia). Looking ahead to the schedule was the vast new space known as the Heartland.
“Maybe we should wait a sim or two in the Heartland before we decide”, the GM thinks to himself.
The first Heartland series was at home versus Chicago – a four game sweep for the Stars. Then followed a 3-1 series against Madison bringing the record to .500 at 25-25.
“ Now we are eerily close to the last wild card slot”, a fan near the front office was heard murmuring.
Then the first big Heartland test came when Valencia traveled to Twin Cities and it did not fair out greatly as the series went 1-3 in favor of the Monsters. Then came a 4 game sweep of Omaha, 2-2 splits with Yellow Springs and Louisville with the latest series – a 4 game sweep against fellow wild card seeker Des Moines.
That leaves the Stars’ record at 38-32 going into Nashville which includes a 20-8 stint against the Heartland opponents. But Nashville is not your typical Heartland team nor typical Frick team for that matter. This is the first step in a 12-game road trip.
Nashville is welcoming Valencia with the hosts claiming a BBA-best record of 51-19. The Bluebirds are first in the Frick in every major offensive category except batting average (2nd) and stolen bases (8th) while the Stars are pretty much in the middle of the pack on both sides of the plate.
“This series has all of the makings of a rematch between Average Joe’s versus Globo-Gym – except we don’t have a chick with a cannon,” a local news correspondent stated. Stay tuned for the series to unfold and see if Valencia can take a game from the Birdcage in this series.
