Hawaii’s pitching and hitting are out of sync in taking another loss. Trops pitchers give up seven runs on nine hits but also walked five batters. The offense had twelve hits but couldn’t keep a consistent rally and scored just four runs.
Hawaii starter Gheorghe Sollomovici gave up four runs on four hits and walked two as he took his 1st loss of the season. The bullpen gave up three more runs before Marty Pearce and Jose Ordonez finally stopped the bleeding.
Carlos Sanchez was 3 for 4 with a two-run homer (12). Vincente Mendez was 2 for 4 with a double (22) and an RBI.

The Mad Popes keeps the Tropics offense in check to go up 2-0 in the series. Hawaii went up 2-0 early but couldn’t manage much else then their bullpen coughed up the lead.
Sanchez was 1 for 3 with a walk and an RBI. Eric Owens drove in Hawaii’s other run with a solo homer (11) in the 3rd inning.
Martin ‘Lumps’ Garcia pitched well giving up just four hits and issued a walk in four innings of work. He fanned five batters in the no decision. Utkan Gocek lost the game after allowing a couple of runs on three hits and three walks in 1.1 innings. He falls to 6-6 with a 4.17 ERA.

Ruben bin Majid al Din and his teammates in the bullpen slowed the Mad Popes offense as the Tropics get back in the win column.
Majid al Din allowed a run in 4.2 innings and Ricardo Sanchez pitched two clean innings for the win to improve to 4-1. Marty Pearce gave up a single run in 2/3 of an inning then Bob Westbrooks mopped up the final five outs for the save.
Vincente Mendez was 1 for 4 with a solo homer (12) in the 4th inning. Vicente ‘Yogi’ Martinez was 1 for 4 with a two-run jack (35) in the 7th inning.

The misery continues for Hawaii as the Mad Popes take the series finale and the series. Starter Daniel Thornton had a one-run lead after an inning but coughed up four runs in the top of the 2nd to doom his team.
Vincente Mendez completed a strong series for Hawaii at the plate going 3 for 4 with a couple of doubles (24), a walk and two ribbies. Roberto Lopez was 2 for 5, stole a base (10), scored a run and drove in a run.
The Sacramento Mad Popes win the four-game series 3-1.
The slump is real.
