Louisville 4 Hawaii 2- Thursday, June 21, 2063

The Louisville Sluggers begin a crucial series against Hawaii with a win over the Trops. The Trops had a fantastic start by Daniel Thornton going 5.1 innings allowing a run on two hits and a walk as his team took a 2-1 lead. Thornton came out of the game after an out in the 6th for reliever Cale Cote. Cote gave up three runs on three hits with a K to blow the lead and get tagged with the loss.

Vicente ‘Yogi’ Martinez was 2 for 4 with his 28th homer of the season. He also doubled (21) and scored two runs.

Hawaii 6 Louisville 3- Friday, June 22, 2063

LP- Jon Brown (4-8)

Save- Bob Westbrooks (8)

Attendance- 35,128 at Kentucky Truck Plant Stadium

The Tropics offense put up three runs in the 1st and two more in the 2nd to set the tone in Game 2. The pitching staff did the rest of the work holding the Sluggers to three runs to even the series 1-1.

The top of the Tropics lineup was 5 for 12 with four ribbies and scored three runs to fuel the offense. Rookie Roberto Lopez was 2 for 5 with a double (3), scored two runs and drove in one. Armando Medina was 2 for 3 with a walk, scored a run and drove in one. Vicente Martinez was 1 for 4 with a two-run triple (4) in the 1st inning.

Semih Gurani gave up a run on four hits with four Ks in 4.1 innings to begin the game. Ricardo Sanchez followed with 1.2 scoreless innings allowing just a hit to earn his 1st win of the season. Bob Westbrooks pitched 1.1 clean innings with three Ks for his 8th save.

Hawaii 8 Louisville 5- Saturday, June 23, 2063

Attendance- 38,212 at Kentucky Truck Plant Stadium

Hawaii’s offense got a second look at Sluggers hurler Josh Sang and took advantage. The Trops put up five runs on Sang in the top of the 9th to go up on Louisville 8-5. The big hit came off the bat of 3B Jorge Dodd with a Grand Slam (15) off Sang and was 2 for 5 on the day. Trops veteran Mitch Wareham has been in a season long slump but was 2 for 4 with a triple (1), scored two runs and drove in two. Lorenzo Holloway was 2 for 3 with two ribbies and scored a run.

Bob Westbrooks pitched one inning with a walk and a K to earn the win. Utkan Gocek earned the save with an inning of work allowing a hit, walked one and fanned two.

Louisville 6 Hawaii 3- Sunday, June 24, 2063

LP- Jose Ordonez (5-1)

Attendance- 33,708 at Kentucky Truck Plant Stadium

The Sluggers fall behind Hawaii 3-0 but fight back with three runs in the 6th and 7th innings to earn the series split. The Trops scored their three runs on a solo homer by Carlos Sanchez (10) and a two-run blast by Armando Medina (9).

Tropics starter Ruben bin Majid al Din was solid for 5.1 innings allowing just two hits and fanned four batters in a no decision. Harry Edwards came on a gave up the lead allowing three runs on three hits and a walk in 2/3 of an inning. Jose Ordonez took the loss after he also gave up three runs on three hits and a walk in 2/3 of an inning.

The Trops and Sluggers split the four-game series.



“We really need a couple of players to get on a roll.”, said Hawaii Manager Amato Cruz.
