The Hawaii Tropics offense lit up Black Sox starter Stevie Bodine for five runs in four innings then add eight more on the Chicago bullpen for a series opening win. The Trops pounded four homers and four doubles in the beat down. Rookie Vicente ‘Yogi’ Martinez was 3 for 4 with a double (20), Grand Slam (27), scored two runs and drove in four. Vincente Mendez matched Yogi’s four RBI while going 2 for 4 with a three-run blast (11) and stole a base (24). Carlos Sanchez tallied three RBI going 4 for 5 with a double (22), a solo homer (8) and stole bag #8. Lorenzo Holloway hit his 6th homer in the 6th.
Semih Gurani also struggled on the mound for Hawaii allowing four runs on four hits and a walk in four innings. His teammates in the bullpen had his back giving up just a run over five innings. Mark ‘DeathBlow’ Wells earned the win with a scoreless inning giving up two hits, a walk and struck out a batter.

The Hawaii Tropics bullpen failed late allowing the Black Sox back into the game scoring runs in the 8th and 9th to tie the game. Usually reliable stoppers Bob Westbrooks and Utkan Gocek were the perpetrators. The Black Sox broke the tie in the top of the 11th off reliever Cale Cote scoring three runs to ruin his outing.
Manny Ortiz made the start for Hawaii giving up just a hit in five innings while walking one and fanning six in a no decision.

The Hawaii Tropics score four runs in the home half of the 7th inning to break a 1-1 tie and eventually win the game. Lorenzo Holloway put the Trops on the board with a solo homer (7) in the 5th inning to tie the game. Holloway was 2 for 3 with two RBI and scored a run. Vicente Martinez was 3 for 4 with an RBI and Julian Rivera was 2 for 3 with a double (10), scored a run and drove in one.
Ruben bin Majid al Din allowed a run on two hits and two walks while fanning six in 5.1 innings for Hawaii. Alex Garcia earned the win with 2.2 scoreless innings giving up just one hit with five Ks.

Black Sox RF Omar Robles hit two homers against Hawaii starter Slobodan Omeragic and drove in five runs to propel Chicago to a win. Omeragic gave up four runs on three hits and a walk with a K in 2.2 innings. Omeragic slipped out of loss though as his teammates kept the Trops in the game with five runs. Carlos Sanchez did the most damage with a two-run homer and three RBI on the day. Utkan Gocek took the loss allowing a two-run homer to Ramon Garcia in the top of the 8th. Gocek pitched two innings and falls to 4-3.
The Trops and Black Sox split the four-game series.
GM Jim Walker said, “Omeragic is going to be released. Gheorghe Sollomovici is rehabbing in Death Vally and should be ready for the Des Moines series.”
