The Hawaii offense figured out Des Moines starter Arnold Cantrell after the 1st time through the order. They put up seven runs on seven hits against the veteran hurler led by rookie Vicente ‘Yogi’ Martinez’s three-run homer (17).
Martin ‘Lumps’ Garcia made the start for Hawaii pitching 4.2 innings allowing three runs on three hits and a walk while fanning six batters. Jose Valle came on in relief of Garcia working 2.1 scoreless innings to earn the win.

The Hawaii Tropics offense was baffled by Des Moines starter Micah Harrington for seven innings as he allowed just two hits and one run on a solo homer. Scott Everard struck out three batters in two innings of relief to seal the one-run win to even the series.
Hawaii’s run came on an Armando Medina solo blast (6) in the 6th inning off Harrington. Jose Ordonez and Mitch Wareham had the other Tropics hits.
Ruben bin Majid al Din pitched 4.2 innings for Hawaii allowing a run on four hits, a walk and struck out three. Alex Garcia took the loss allowing the winning run on two hits and a walk while striking out two in 1.1 innings.

The Tropics drop another one-run affair as the Kernels bullpen has been sharp. The Trops took the lead in the 4th inning on a two-run homer off the bat of Vincente Mendez (9).
The Kernels tied the game with an unearned run off reliever Jose Ordonez in the top of the 5th and pulled ahead for good with a run off reliever Cale Cote in the 6th. Slobodan Omeragic had a good start for Hawaii as he limited the Kernels to a run on five hits and a walk in 3.1 innings while striking out a batter.

The Tropics earn a series split with the Kernels with a walk off win at ‘Iolani Palace. Everett Sutphin gave up a lead-off double to Armando Medina in the bottom of the 9th then John Harris stepped into the batter’s box. Harris attempted a bunt on the 1st pitch and fouled it off. He whiffed on his 2nd try to bunt and stepped out of the box to the sound of the Hawaii fan’s groans. He dug back into the box and drove the next pitch off the wall in left/center field scoring Medina with the game winning run.
Carlos Sanchez was 4 for 4 with a solo homer (6) and two RBI. Jorge Dodd was 2 for 4 with a solo homer (12) and scored two runs.
On the mound, Daniel Thornton gave up two runs on three hits and a walk in 4.2 innings while fanning sine batters in a no decision. Utkan Gocek earned the win with two clean innings with two Ks.
The Trops and Kernels split the four-game series.
