Hawaii 11 Long Beach 10 (15 innings)- Tuesday, September 19, 2062

WP- Utbah ‘Crawdad Me’ bin Muta (6-1)

LP- Francisco Ramirez (5-5)

Attendance- 39,819 at ‘Iolani Palace

The Surfers and Tropics played a 15-inning, 6 hour and 18-minute marathon before Hawaii comes out on top. Long Beach kicked it off with four runs in the 1st before Hawaii responded with 8 runs through innings 1-3. Long Beach scrapped back with three runs in the 7th and finally tied the game in the 9th to send it to extras.

Both teams put up zeroes through the 13th before the Surfers scored two in the 14th. Hawaii tied it in the bottom of the inning on a two-run double (30) by Vincente Mendez. Trops reliever Utbah bin Muta came on in the top of the 15th and pitched a clean inning to set up Hawaii for some heroics. Carlos Shumann led off the inning with a single then moved to second on a wild pitch. Mitch Wareham drew a walk then Eric Owens lined a single to right that scored Schumann with the game winner.

Long Beach 7 Hawaii 5- Wednesday, September 20, 2062

WP- Stephen ‘Mr. Reliable’ Clulow, Jr. (4-12)

Attendance- 39,631 at ‘Iolani Palace

The Surfers are playing the Tropics tough as they even the series 1-1 with a 7th inning rally. Long Beach put up three runs on the Hawaii bullpen in the 7th and an insurance run in the 9th.

Cale Cote took the loss after giving up two runs on two hits and a walk in his inning of work. Kinzo Iwamoto made the start for Hawaii going five innings allowing three runs on six hits and a walk with five Ks.

Eric Owens was 2 for 4 with his 38th homer of the season, a walk, scored two runs and drove in two. Mitch Wareham was 2 for 4 with a double (25), walk, scored a run and drove in one.

Hawaii 11 Long Beach 5- Thursday, September 21, 2062

WP- Bill Phillips (3-1)

LP- Tulon Koruturk (1-6)

Save- None

Time: 3:25

Attendance- 39,838 at ‘Iolani Palace

The Tropics blow this game open with a six-run 7th inning to go up 2-1 in the series. The big hit in the 7th was a two-run double by Carlos Antunez (11).

The Tropics also had three homers with one each from Lynn Avison (6), Eric Owens (39) and John Harris (16).

Bill Phillips earned the win with 1.2 innings of work allowing a run on a solo homer while walking one and fanning two batters. Martin ‘Lumps’ Garcia made the start going 4.2 innings giving up three runs on four hits and a walk while fanning seven batters.

Hawaii 8 Long Beach 5- Friday, September 22, 2062

WP- Utkan Gocek (5-1)

LP- Seth Nagaswamy (2-3)

Attendance- 39,928 at ‘Iolani Palace

The Long Beach Surfers rally for four runs in the 7th inning off Trops reliever Marty Pearce to tie the series finale at 5-5. The Tropics retook the lead for good in the bottom of the 8th on a three-run homer (2) by rookie Vicente ‘Yogi’ Martinez.

Martinez was 1 for 3 with four RBI and scored a run. RF Vincente Mendez was 2 for 3 with two solo homers (12).

Utkan Gocek pitched two clean innings with five Ks to earn the win to improve to 5-1. Niegloslaw Woywitka made the start and pitched 5.2 innings allowing a run on three hits and three walks. He fanned four in the no decision.

The Hawaii Tropics win the series 3-1 leaving the Tropics 2 games behind the Pacific Division Leader Sacramento Mad Popes.
