The Trops and Mounties play to a 1-1 tie through 9 innings to send the game to extras. It remained tied until the top of the 14th when the Mounties took the lead with a solo homer by Mitchell Goater off ‘Crawdad Me’ bin Muta. Utbah escaped any further damage, but the Tropics offense needed to bail him out.
They did just that with a one out single by Carlos Sanchez to start a rally. Vincente Mendez followed with a single to put runners at first and third. Rookie Jorge Dodd was fanned by Serge Elovsky to put Hawaii down to their last out. Inexplicably, Vancouver Manager Hung-k’uel Cui pulled Elovsky from the game for Sam ‘The Assassin’ Fuller. Fuller faced off with John Harris and plunked him on a 0-1 pitch to load the bases. Carlos Schumann dug into the box to face Fuller and worked a 2-1 count before sending a two-run single to left center to give the Trops the walk-off extra innings win.
Hawaii wins the series 3-1. The Trops are back in 1st in the Pacific with the series win after Sacramento loses their series to San Fernando 3-1.
“That was a clutch series win for us.”, said Hawaii Manager Rich Kerr.
