The Hawaii Tropics Organization sent two minor league players to the Futures Game to represent the Frick League. Death Valley Scorpions SP Ho-jun Yi was picked and pitched an inning in the Frick League extra inning win giving up a hit. Yi’s teammate in Death Valley Vicente ‘Yogi’ Martinez, was also selected and was 1 for 3 with a K in the win.
Only one big league player was selected from the Tropics squad with Utkan Gocek getting the call. Gocek is 2-0 with 14 saves and a 2.60 ERA in 34.2 innings pitched. He averages 8 Ks per 9 and has posted a 1.3 WAR. Gocek never saw the mound as he went unused in the All-Star Game.
“I was on my rest day, so they didn’t give me an inning. That’s good by me.”, said Gocek.
