
The Hawaii Tropics return to the Palace for a three-game series against the Long Beach Surfers.
Game 1- Hawaii starter Troy ‘Teddy Bear’ Reynolds allows only two solo homers in 5 2/3 innings as the Tropics take the series opener. Reynolds walked a batter and fanned six as he improves to 3-0 with a 2.51 ERA. Chih Kuang pitched a clean 2 1/3 innings with a K then Bill Ritz followed with a clean 9th with a K for his 3rd save.
Mike Campbell put up another 3 hit day going 3 for 3 with a walk and blasted two homers. He hit a solo blast in the 1st and a two-run shot in the 3rd. Adhyapayana Mehta was 1 for 4 with two stolen bases and scored a run. Ramao ‘Massacre’ Saturnino was 1 for 4 with a stolen base and scored a run. Pedro Huerta was 1 for 4 with an RBI and scored a run.
Hawaii wins 5-2.
Game 2- The Surfers score two runs in the 7th and two more in the 8th to steal a win. They even the three-game series at 1-1. Hawaii relievers Utkan Gocek and Dominic Thompson allowing two runs in their appearances to give up the lead. Gocek pitched 1 2/3 innings allowing two runs on two hits and a couple of walks then Thompson allowed two runs on a hit and a walk in 1 1/3 innings. Thompson takes the loss and falls to 1-2 with a 3.71 ERA. Bill Ritz pitched another clean inning in the 9th.
Semih Gurani threw five innings and allowed a run on four hits. He walked two batters and struck out three in the no decision.
Mike Campbell was 2 for 4 and scored a run. Will Patterson was 1 for 4 with an RBI. Thomas Kramer was 1 for 2 with an RBI.
Long Beach wins 5-3.
Game 3- Hawaii pitchers Michael Kalil and Phil Thompson combine to shut out the Surfers on two hits as the Trops win the rubber game. Kalil pitched six scoreless innings allowing just a hit, walked three and fanned eight. He improves to 3-2 with a 5.44 ERA. Thompson pitched three innings allowing a hit with two Ks as he earns his 6th save.
Ramao Saturnino was 1 for 3 with a double, a walk and scored a run. Pedro Huerta was 1 for 4 with a two-run triple and scored a run. Mike Campbell was 2 for 4 with an RBI, scored a run and was caught stealing. Thomas Kramer was 2 for 4 with an RBI and scored a run. Will Patterson was 1 for 3 with a walk and an RBI. Katsumi Matsumoto was 1 for 4 with a ribbie.
Hawaii wins 6-0.
The Tropics win the series 2-1.
