August Starting Pitching Recap

MacNeill, Noble, & West win 4 each
Carter wins 2, Kestle none
MacNeill winning streak at 12

Daffy MacNeill, a true rookie, followed his July Pitcher-of-the-month selection with a 4-0
August, tossing 44 innings, striking out better than a batter an inning (48) and limiting his
walks to 11. He ran his winning streak to 12 games and his Undefeated streak to 15. He
twice exited games on the short end of the score but both times the offense rallied.

Feature game: MacNeill tames the Wolves, 7-1, striking out a career-best 14, in 8 innings

Joshua Noble was 4-1 in August, with 1.70 ERA, waling 4 in 37 innings. He is now 7-3 since
coming to Hawai'i on July 1. He led starters with a 0.95 WHIP.

Feature game: Noble throws 8 innings of shut out ball v Valencia, allowing three hits

Rory West led the team with 7 starts and was 4-2. West had been a key part of the bullpen
(2-1-2, 1.77 ERA in 33 games) before joining the rotation this month after Billy Wallace suffered
his second major injury in three seasons.

Johnny Carter was 2-3 2ith a 2.56 ERA and a 1.03 WHIP in 6 starts. After defeating division
rivals Vancouver and California, he lost a 0-2 game v Louisville and lost to Madison twice,
including a game in which he yielded only 2 runs.

Feature game: a 6-2 win over Vancouver, going 7 2/3 ip, striking out 8 and allowing 2 runs.

Jake Kestle continues to show inconsistency and has struggled all season. In August he
was 0-1, 5.48 in 4 starts. The weak link in the rotation, he has been moved to the Number
5 spot, although the team hopes he can get it together in September. Last August and Sep-
tember Kestle was 7-1, 2.27 in 10 starts. Anything close to that this year, and Hawai'i would
have a much better record.

Feature Game: Named Player of the Game for his last start for 8 stellar innnings against GRN
(the last team he has actually defeated back on July 3), allowing an unearned run on 2 hits
and a walk, while striking out 7.

Hawai'i has been tempted to go out and get another starter. But the pickings aren't that attractive
and it still has John Daniels, Michael Duran, and even Naji Mcnitt as viable starting options.
