It’s now confirmed. The Tropics bullpen is in a slump. Trops starter Ruben bin Majid al Din gave up just a run on four hits and a walk with two Ks in 4.2 innings. The offense scores three runs to give Hawaii the early lead but Ricardo Sanchez and Marty Pearce let it slip away. Sanchez gave up three unearned runs after an error by rookie Vicente ‘Yogi’ Martinez to take the loss. Marty Pearce followed up allowing two runs on three hits in 2/3 of an inning.

Julian Rivera 1 for 4 with a solo homer (4) in the 4th inning. Martinez was 1 for 4 with a double (31) and scored a run. Roberto Lopez was 1 for 4 with a double (11), a walk, stole a base (8) and drove in a run.

Chicago 3 Hawaii 1 (10 innings)- Tuesday, July 24, 2063

WP- Richard Lawrence (4-3)

LP- Utkan Gocek (5-5)

The Hawaii Tropics lose an extra inning pitcher’s duel to the Chivagop Black Sox to go down 2-0 in the series. Trops starter Daniel Thornton gave up a run on five hits and a walk while fanning four in 4.1 innings then the bullpen put up 4.2 scoreless innings. Utkan Gocek had pitched a clean 9th and was brought back out for the 10th. He recorded two outs then gave up a hit and was pulled for Reynaldo Trinidad. Trinidad battled Sergio Lopes to a 3-2 count but his cutter betrayed him as Lopes crushed it for the walk off homer.

Hawaii 6 Chicago 4- Wednesday, July 25, 2063

LP- Azim bin Ghalib (2-3)

The Tropics offense bailed out the bullpen to save the series against the Black Sox. Lorenzo Holloway was 1 for 3 with a double (21), walked twice, scored a run and drove in three. His double scored two in the 2nd and a walk scored a run in the crucial 8th inning. Jose Ordonez was 1 for 3 with a double (16), two walks and two ribbies. One of those RBI was also in the 8th on an error on his ground ball.

Semih Gurani gave up two runs on three hist and a couple of walk in 3.2 innings to begin the game. Jose Vall earned the win with 1.2 scoreless innings giving up just a hit.

WP- Utkan Gocek (6-5)

LP- Richard Lawrence (4-4) BS (1)

Save- Marty Pearce (1)

Time: 3:38

Attendance- 19,569 at Vinnie Vitale Stadium

The Hawaii offense saves the day with a six-run outburst on the top of the 9th and steal a win and earn a series split. The big hit was a bases loaded double (16) by Julian Rivera that scored all three runs. Roberto Lopez was 2 for 4 with a walk, double (12), scored a run and drove in a run.

Utkan Gocek earned the win but almost blew it allowing a two-run homer. Gocek was pulled in favor of Marty Pearce who saved the day with a K to earn the save.

The Hawaii Tropics and Chicago Black Sox split the four-game series.

“We lucked out with the series split but the attendance was horrible!”, commented Hawaii GM Jim Walker.

IIRC, Chicago’s ticket prices have been way too high for years now.
