The Hawaii Tropics fall behind early 5-0 but claw their way back to walk it off on a sac fly. Trops starter Daniel Thornton struggled through 3.2 innings allowing five runs on six hits and a walk while striking out just one batter.
Hawaii’s offense responded with two runs in the bottom of the 2nd and a single run in the 3rd. The Nine tacked on a run in the 5th but the Trops scored two more in the 6th to get withing a run. In the bottom of the 9th, Vincente Mendez reached on an error by Emilio Navarro when he muffed the throw from Juan Silva. Vicente ‘Yogi’ Martinez singled followed by an RBI double by Jorge Dodd to tie the game at six. Armando Medina stepped to the plate and took the 1st pitch for a ball then drove the next pitch deep to right to score Martinez with the game winner.
Jorge Dodd was 1 for 3 with two RBI and a walk, Medina was 1 for 4 with a run scored and an RBI and Carlos Sanchez was 1 for 4 with a two-run homer (11). Rookie LF Roberto Lopez tied the Hawaii single game walk record as he drew four walks against the Nine.

Tropics reliever Bob Westbrooks had a meltdown against the Yellow Springs Nine allowing three runs while getting just one out to snatch a loss from the jaws of victory.
The Trops offense put up three homers to take an early lead but they were all of the solo variety. Jose Ordonez hit is 6th, Lorenzo Holloway hit his 10th and Julian Rivera smacked his 3rd in the 7th inning.
Semih Gurani began the game strong for Hawaii pitching 4.1 scoreless innings giving up four hits, walked one and struck out one in a no decision.

Hawaii’s Jorge Dodd and Jeff Appleton hit back to back homers in the 1st inning and combine for 4 homers in the game as the Trops boatrace the Nine.
Dodd was 2 for 6 with homer 20 and 21 to drive in two runs. Appleton was 3 for 6 with his 4th and 5th homers to drive in three runs. Eric Owens may be finally heating after going 4 for 5 with a double (12), scored a run and drove in three.
On the mound, Gheorghe Sollomovici pitched 4.1 scoreless innings giving up just two hits, walked two and fanned four in a no decision. Alex Garcia earned the win while allowing two runs on three hits in 2.2 innings of work.

Hawaii starter Martin ‘Lumps’ Garcia gave up two early runs to the Nine in 4.2 innings but his bullpen picked him up with 4.1 scoreless.
Reynaldo Trinidad earned the win with two scoreless innings allowing two hits with a K. Bob Westbrooks added a scoreless inning with two hits, a walk and a K then Utkan Gocek earned the save with a scoreless innings issuing two walks with a K.
Eric Owens was 2 for 3 with his 9th homer, scored two runs and two ribbies. Carlos Sanchez was 1 for 3 with an RBI double (32).
The Tropics win the series 3-1.
“That was a big series for us after the Nine split with us in Yellow Springs. We’re now up two games on the Krill as they’ve struggled post All Star break (4-8). We would like a bigger cushion because bad shit happens.”, said Hawaii GM Jim Walker.
