The Trops were behind the Stars from the beginning of the game and couldn’t chase them down as Valencia takes the series opener. Trops starter Semih Gurani was burned by the Stars for six runs on seven hits and three walks in three innings. He struck out two batters and gave up two homers in the loss.
Vicente ‘Yogi’ Martinez hit a two-run homer in the 1st to tie the game and Armando Medina crushed a solo homer in the 8th inning to bring Hawaii within two runs of the Stars.

Hawaii starter Martin Garcia too his ‘Lumps’ allowing three solo homers to the Stars hitters as the Trops fall again. Garcia allowed three runs on seven hits and a walk in 3.2 innings while fanning five batters. The bullpen kept the game close until the 8th inning when Trops reliever Utkan Gocek gave up four runs on two homer in 2/3 of an inning.
Mitch Wareham was 1 for 3 with a walk and drove in Hawaii’s only run. Wareham singled to drive in Eric Owens.

Hawaii’s bullpen finally gets back on track with five no hit, scoreless innings to allow the offense to pull away. Starter Ruben bin Majid al Din put the Trops in a hole giving up two homers and five runs in four innings. He gave up four hits total and walked three while striking out two batters. Reynaldo Trinidad followed Majid al Din with two solid innings with a walk and a K. Cale Cote then took the ball and threw a clean inning. Finally, Bob Westbrooks earned his 4th save with two clean innings and two Ks.
The offense did their part putting up seven runs on 13 hits and taking four walks. The team had homers from Medina (5), Wareham (5) and Vincente Mendez (6).
Valencia wins the series 2-1.
