The Tropics pitching staff scatter ten hits and the offense takes advantage of an error to pull away from the M’opes late to take Game 1. Hawaii starter Niegloslaw Woywitka pitched 5.1 innings allowing the Mad Popes just five hits and gave up a walk to get his 2nd win. Gheorghe Sollolovici gave up Sacaramento’s lone run on a solo homer in the 8th inning. Sollomovici pitched 1.2 innings giving up three hits, walked one and struck out one.
Carlos Shumann was 2 for 4 and led off the game with a homer off the 1st pitch he saw from Joe Brooks.

Trops starter Kinzo Iwamoto outduels Sacramento’s Joe King as Hawaii goes up 2-0 in the series. Iwamoto allowed two runs on eight hits in 5.1 innings as he wins his 2nd game. He walked three and struck out four in the win. Utkan Gocek pitched two scoreless innings for the save. He allowed a hit and struck out two.
Mitch Wareham was 2 for 4 with a solo homer and two RBI. Carlos Schumann was 2 for 5 with a double (5) and drove in a run. Carlos Antunez was 2 for 4 with a ribbie.

The Mad Popes avoid a sweep at the hands of the Tropics with a shutout in the series finale. Hawaii Carlos Schumann had two of the Trops three hits in the loss. SS Julian Rivera was 1 for 3.
Trops starter Jose Ordonez had a rough go of it as the Mad Popes scored all four runs on seven hits and four walks. He struck out four in six innings as he falls to 0-1. Martin ‘Lumps’ Garcia pitched two scoreless innings allowing just a hit and struck out two.
Hawaii wins the series 2-1.
Hawaii GM Jim Walker said, “I’m happy we took the series but it’s disturbing the Mad Popes outhomered us 3-2.”
