Hawai'i news? Really?

The Tropics began August by winning 4 of 9 ball games despite being outscored
59 runs to 42. Losses to Birmingham 11-4 and to Washington 10-0 accounted for
much of the differential. Two of the team's 4 victories were of the walk-off-the-park
variety.

Hurley Reyes hit one home run in 8 games and stands at 395 in his career. Reyes
has started 106 of Hawaii's 118 games.

Nine other Tropics combined for 12 home runs and the team is third in the JL in
that category.

GM Al Hoot claimed "fellow Texan" Tex Correia off waivers from Baltimore. The Monarchs
had earlier claimed Correia—who is from California and picked up his nickname while
playing for the Austin Riverbats—from Phoenix.

Last year Correia, who has a .311 batting average in twelve seasons, hit .295 with 54
extra base hits in 144 games for Marquette.

This year "Tex" has 35 at bats: 15 for Phoenix and 20 for Baltimore. His last safe hit was
June 30.

"I tell y'all what: that all's fixin' to change—big time," Hoot said.

Correia plans to bunk with Durkin Turrell, so they can exchange fielding strategies.
