Two years after drafted sixth overall, LF-1B Ignacio Ramos went oh for four and made an error
in left field in his major league debut before 44,820 at King County Complex in an interleague
game
versus Seattle that the Tropics dropped 5-2.

Ramos was hitting .297 in 46 games at Triple-A Death Valley. The 6'2" Colombian led DV with
27 walks.

He spent his first two pro seasons at Double-A Carson City, where he hit .246 in 2003 and .276
in 2002.

Scout Snip Lilo said Ramos had an "extremely high" work ethic and that he had been making
steady progress in both hitting and fielding abilities during his three seasons in Hawaii's farm
system.

Ramos flew out in the 2nd and 6th innings and struck out in the 4th against Joshua Noble. In
the 9th he flew out against reliever Meyer to end the game.

In the 7th Ramos bungled a lead off single by Randy Square, allowing him to advance to
second. Square scored an unearned run off reliever Richard Fox.

It took 3 weeks, a bonus of $1,000,000, and a 3-year major league contract before Ramos
agreed to sign with Hawaii on July 2, 2002. He was drafted on June 11.
