On the Diamond Vol. 9 1999

Pitcher of the sim:
SP Oscar Funke
1-0 with a 1.12 ERA and 9 K's in 16 IP. Funke is having an excellent sophomore year.

Batter of the sim:
C Oscar Mazzarella
.393 AVG in 28 AB's with 1 HR. Hes a really good catcher. Plain and simple.

2-7?! UGH! Very bad sim. Couldn't hit the ball at all. When 3 of your starting 5 put up ERA's like 1.12, 1.59, and 2.30 one would suspect the sim went well. To me this screams the bullpen let us down and we failed to hit the ball. Upon closer inspection this is exactly what happened. Most of the losses were very close and most of the games were well pitched on my side, just didn't score enough. So I will toss this one out as the exception rather than the rule and move on. This poor sim does mean we lost our perch as #1 in the Pacific which we will hopefully claim back shortly.

In other news 5 California players made the all-star team. Steve Taub, Len Cortese, Oscar Mazzarella, Bernard Maselli and Ryan Sittler. Having 5 all-stars surely bodes well for the team wouldn't ya think?

Nice to see Mazz rebound after a tough 1998 debut with the Crusaders. Long time star in the FL Pacific with the Surfers.
