1999 Team Preview (Pitching)

Post by bschr682 » Fri Feb 04, 2011 8:47 pm

Here are your 1999 California Crusaders (pitching staff)

Key Departures: SP Dow Jones, SP Nick Machiavelli

Key Arrivals: SP Sammy Bodeen

1999 Starting Rotation

Sammy Bodeen (26)– Big free agent signing. Sports a 83-59 win/loss record with a 2.97 ERA in roughly 1400 innings pitched along with 1500 K's. Bodeen will be the new ace of the staff. Bodeen should put up some great numbers with a pretty good defense behind him.

Adam Weisgerber (27)– Weisgerber is coming off a fine rookie season where he put up a 15-10 record with a 3.46 ERA and 146 K's in 229 IP. Expecting very big things from this guy.

Oscar Funke (26)– Much like Weisgerber, Funke is coming off a fantastic rookie season where he put up a 15-9 record with a 2.77 ERA and 149 K's in 207 IP. Funke gave up 5 homeruns all year last year. Any pitcher that can keep it in the park should excel with the good D Cali has behind them.

Steve Taub (24)– Another of the rookie wonders brought up last season. Taub went 9-9 with a 3.02 ERA and 103 K's in 173 IP.

Paul Kimzey (28)– Kimzey has been in the rotation for quite awhile now. Last season Kimzey put up a 13-5 record with a 3.07 ERA and 95 K's in an injury shortened 137 IP. Kimzey's name is on the trade block so look for youngster Duran to make the rotation at some point this season.

1999 Bullpen

Michael Duran (23)– Duran is a young starter who finds himself in the pen to start the season. Last season in his limited time on the big league squad he had 11 IP and a .77 ERA. If Kimzey gets dealt look for Duran to slot into the rotation.

Ted Shaw (28)– Shaw would make a decent #5 in most rotations but cannot make the cut with the talent ahead of him. Last season in the pen Shaw had a 4.85 ERA in only 29 IP. Hopefully Shaw can get that ERA down closer to 4 because he will certainly be logging a lot more innings.

John Frastacore (29)– Last season had a pretty poor 6.66 ERA in 24 IP. Without any quality options behind him management is hopeful Frastacore can pick up a few notches.

Erich Teske (25)– Last season Teske was awful with a 7.66 ERA in 22 IP. He was kept on in a mop up role due to being out of options and it seems Teske has a bit of an upside. Time will tell.

Set-Up

Scott Klingenbeck (28)– Klingenbeck had 4.04 ERA in 55 IP last season. Klingenbeck has outstanding stuff and if he can cut down that ERA a bit he should have a decent season.

Pedro Martinez (30)– Pedro was brought in last season to be the lefty option out of the pen. Martinez is an outstanding reliever posting a 2.86 ERA in 66 IP.

Closer

Len Cortese (32) – Cortese, much like Martinez, was signed last season and had a great season. He had 39 saves and a 3.18 ERA in 65 IP.

Your pitching staff has been declared illegal and will be broken up.
Please let me know who you want to cede to Vancouver.
