One of the big questions that could have been is what Lou Bayou would have done with his player option for 2064 under his contract. Given how important Bayou is to the Mad Popes, getting an extension done was impressed on the new Popes brass. After some discussions between the front office and Bayou's camp, the Mad Popes are excited to announce that Bayou is going to stick around. Bayou's salary will rise up to $19.6 million in 2065 with an opt out after 2066 and player options in 2069 and 2070. While that means that there could be some moves the Mad Popes have to make for the sake of the cap down the road, it was better to get the contract sorted before any tough decisions could be made.
Mad Popes GM Ben Heuring was all smiles at the press conference announcing the news. "Lou has been a joy to watch and work with in the short time I've been out here, and making sure that the heartbeat of our team is going to stay with us was a key goal for this organization. Now, we can worry about getting back in front of the Pacific and driving in some runs."

The most important aspect of the extension is it turns next year’s option into an under-market guarantee.
