June 13, 2045: Chicago – Just before the start of tonight’s game, Yellow Springs bench coach and Hall of Famer Lucas McNeill went to the Chicago Black Sox clubhouse to deliver a special present to stopper Mitchell Pursell.
“I slipped him a copy of Mikki’s latest release with a hundred dollar bill in it,” McNeill said—a gift clearly meant to cover Pursell’s fine in the Sox’s kangaroo court last week. “Unplugged is awesome,” McNeill said, “but I wanted him to have the live cut of He’s My Sweet Little Hall of Famer, because if he can keep doing what he’s doing for another decade and a half maybe he’ll be able to play it at his induction.”
The cut has been a mega-hit for his wife Mikki Manning, who the Chicago pitcher, as well as his team, clearly dismissed.
The Sox are due to visit Yellow Springs in late August, in what is shaping up to be a series with serious division ramifications. The Nine have apparently licensed the use of the entire Unplugged album for use on continuous loop in the visitors’ clubhouse during the trip.
“Mikki has been the hardest working woman in the field since before I knew her,” McNeill said. “I’m proud of her, and always happy to deliver a copy of her work to anyone.”
The game finished with as a 3-1 Nine victory when centerfielder Arvin Duggan blooped a two-run single into the gap between the shortstop and left fielder.
