Pitchers

Rookie Lorenzo Peña won his first ML game and he went 1-1 in the sim. He pitched 12.2 innings (most on the team) and had a 1.42 ERA, striking out 13. As a whole the squad struck out 61 and walked 36 in 87.2 innings. Peña is now 1-2 1.93 since I called him up.

Wayne Williams, the team's first waiver wire pick up under the new Crebel Regime (YS9.1?) appeared in 4 games, threw 4.2 scoreless innings, struck out 4 and gave up a walk. It was only the second waiver wire pick up of the season. Williams had been placed on waivers by Huntsville.

Javier Leyva, one of the pitchers I criticized the most and therefore sent down to Triple A immediately, well I called him back up and put him in the pen. He did all right. He pitched 7.1 innings with a 1.23 ERA.
Carlos Acevedo (2-15, 7.89) picked up his second win of the season, throwing a QS against Huntsville.
Batters

Newman 'Calico' Watson, another July call up, is the Hitter of the Sim for his .966 OPS, .378/.452/.514 with 5 walks and a home run.
Backup catcher Valentín 'Deranged' Orta hit a grand slam against Esteben 'Stud' Parra (HNT).
Last sim's batter of the sim Cf Stan Rankin was 4-29 with 13 strike outs. His batting average went down to .193 after surging to .198, bringing fans hope that he would get over the Mendoza line the first time since May. It was not to be; however this player rankles me and smells so rank, there is no better centerfielder in the YS organization and I don't think even in the minors. Last sim's pitcher of the sim Juan Urdiano, who really belongs in the bullpen, had a 10.61 ERA (18 hits and 11 runs in 9.1 innings).
Free Agent Acquisition

The team signed P Pedro Tapia. He could start, allowing Urdiano to move to the pen, but I doubt it. Tapia is another ex-Phantom and he had a 4.57 ERA in 40 relief appearances last season. Tapia replaces Francisco Carmona, who just got injured for the rest of the season.
Waiver Wire Watch
I thought about getting Santiago Gálvez off the waiver wire and I probably should have. I would not have hesitated except for his 10.64 ERA this year, plus a 5.84 lifetime ERA. 99mph fastball and slider with a six movement equals a lot of homeruns. Sill, he probably is better than Levya.
Team Uniform
Everytime I see the uniform of a Triple-A Flagstaff player, I think that this ought to be the uniform of Yellow Springs.

Ánibal Fernández models the Flagstaff yellow uniform.
