The Yellow Springs Nine announced they have claimed the following players off waivers:

Pitcher Tim Adams, from Cobble Hill
Pitcher Tommy Boele, from Des Moines
Catcher Juan Chavez, from Mexico City

Adams, 29, got his start in the Chicago Black Sox organization, where he had seven years of experience on the big league roster. He pitched to a 23-39 record with 5 saves and a 4.73 ERA. Moving on to Nashville, Adams was an all-star for their AAA team before being traded to Cobble Hill during the current off-season. The Robins, however, waived him, at which point the Nine opted to add him to their organization

"We appreciate Tim's experience at the BBA level and as we look to potentially revamp our pitching staff significantly, there's a real opportunity for him to show in Spring Training that he can be a part of our plans for 2063," said GM Rob McMonigal.

Boele, 32, began his professional baseball career in the Global Baseball Conference with Athens, going back to 2050. He spent five years on their major league roster before moving on to Tokyo, where he played another four years. After some time in the GBC minors between two teams, Boele finally got the opportunity to move to the BBA, getting a minor league deal with Des Moines, where he was waived shortly before being selected by the Nine.

"I love Boele's experience," said McMonigal. "He's literally been a world traveler. The Pearls are a top tier organization and knowing that he can bring that and his extremely explosive movement to our organization is a big reason why we picked him up."

Chavez, the youngest of the pick ups at 26, was originally from the Montreal organization, where he was drafted in the 10th round of the 2053 draft. Mexico City took him in the 2059 Rule 5 Draft, and he's been a part-time catcher for them for the past several seasons. In 87 games, he has 28 career hits, though he's been known to be one of the best defensive catchers in the BBA, as well as someone who can fill in at any other infield position, and even center field.

"Yes, we're aware that Chavez has some issues with the bat, but we think it's fixable," said McMonigal. "Catchers with his ability behind the plate don't grow on trees. With our staff, having a strong presence behind the dish is essential. No, he's not going to mash his way to a win, but if he can help us snag a few extra strikeouts with his framing and get a few more outs with his game calling, that will be worth it, even if he fails to bat .200. But I also think our coaches can help him."

All three players will report to Spring Training. Only Chavez was placed on the 40 man roster.

I’m always getting Chavez confused with Juan Suarez, another catcher who they took from me in rule 5 two years earlier. Similarly defensive oriented AAAA type talent too.

I love pilfering off the waiver wire, especially when it works.
