2061.16 Sun sets on Aztec's season

The 2061 campaign for the Mexico City Aztecs has come to end. After fighting hard to secure a Wildcard playoff spot, the Aztecs were eliminated fairly easily by the Jacksonville Zombies 3-1.

Key injuries and a very shaky bullpen proved too much to overcome in the playoffs. Mexico City will now focus on the roster and upcoming free agency as they have several key decisions to make regarding personnel.

Felix Roman is 65 days short of his 42nd Birthday. If he doesn't opt to retire, the Aztecs will find themselves paying out a whopping
$14 million for Roman, who's skills are dropping faster than a dress on prom night.

Jonathan Sobers (shown below) is set to auto renew at $8.5 million. A luxury that Mexico City simply cannot afford. He will most likely be outright released.

Carlos Olivas (shown below) is another albatross around the neck of the Aztecs organization. He has a team buy-out option in 2062 for $5 million. At 38 years old and after going 4-4 with a 5.69 ERA in relief, the Aztecs will most certainly pay him to leave.

Dave Corfield had another great season for the Aztecs. He led the league in games started (36) and Innings pitched (212). He is signed through 2064 and has a NTC clause that he has been unwilling to waive up to this point. The team has a $4 million buy-out option in 2063.

Sergio Tormes was also a bright spot for the Aztecs in 2061, leading the league in saves with 39. He is signed through 2062.

Guo-Dong Cong is a free agent at the end of 2061 and will most likely be signed to an extension before the end of the season.

There are many decisions and potential improvements to be made this offseason for Mexico City, starting with a bullpen that just couldn't get it done when it counted the most.

On to 2062

at least Ji-e Woo's salary is dropping :)

I doubt Félix Román will retire with 957 home runs and so little injuries

Roman only has one year left on his contract and after watching him help carry that franchise for 10 years can't say I feel too bad :)

You could probably get him back to replacement level via a platoon. He was awful against southpaws.
