"We needed to do something, and fast," Simon said during a press conference at press conference. "Look, one man's garbage is another man's treasure, and we believe Franklin can be that treasure for us. It’s about finding diamonds in the rough, and let’s face it, we’re in rough shape right now. For <bleeps> sake, Brooklyn has a better record than us... BROOKLYN!!!”
Badger, 33, comes to Madison with a career ERA of 4.72, and while his numbers this season haven’t been spectacular, the Wolves see potential in the veteran pitcher to help stabilize a rotation in desperate need of consistency. “Franklin’s had some ups and downs, but we believe a change of scenery can do wonders. He’s got the tools, and we’re giving him a fresh start,” Simon added.
In a corresponding move, the Wolves optioned reliever Pablo Macías to their AAA affiliate in South Bend. Macias, who has struggled mightily this season with a 12+ ERA, will be sent down to “work on a few things” according to Simon.
“We need to get this team back on track, and that means making tough decisions. We’re hoping Franklin’s addition can spark something here, and Pablo needs to get back to basics and regain his form,” Simon concluded.
