That's What Cheesehead - 01.08 - Spring News and Notes 1

Post by 7teen » Thu Jun 02, 2011 2:27 pm

The first round of spring training games are in the books and the Wolves started off the spring schedule with a solid 10-4 record. Here are some high and low lights of the first round of spring games...

-Jessie Wrightlost the first game of the spring. Who did he lose to? Vancouver of course!

-Bolt Vanderhugen and Ovidio Elizalde each hit 3 homeruns over the first 14 games to lead the team

-Vanderhugen's 11 RBI led the club

-Casey Martin recorded 25 at-bats 1.302 OPS to lead the regulars in OPS.

-Rule V pickup Harold Crothers went 1-0 in his 2 starts, posting a 4.50 ERA.

-Reliever Jerry Bostic was injured during a game. He'll likely miss 4-5 months of action. Fortunately, the Wolves have ample bullpen arms and Bostic's injury shouldn't matter much in the overall scheme of things for the Wolves.

-Justin Marco pitched in 6 games and saved 4. The JL leader in saves a year ago is back at it once again.

-For the first time in GM Chris Wilson's tenure as a GM, the Wolves had 40 men on the spring roster and I am pretty sure all of them were used in some fasion.

-Our number 1 pitching prospect, Cedric Ayers, was used for an inning of relief. He's normally a starter, but the big news is he went 1-1 at the plate as a batter.

-We beat Phoenix 5-3 in our only matchup. Guam was used as a pinch hitter and went 0-1 with a strikeout. Some things never change!

Crothers seems interesting enough.
