That's What Cheesehead - 00.15 - Wolves Get Additions

Post by 7teen » Thu Apr 28, 2011 10:06 am

What are the best moves a team can make? Ones that make your team better obviously. But what makes those sort of moves even better? When you don't have to give up anything to make your team instantly better. While big moves are being made all around in the MBBA, the Wolves were able to make their team signifcantly better prior to the last sim when the club announced that Bolt Vanderhugen and Jarvis Murphy were both 100% healthy and ready to return to the team. These two additions should only make the club better considering that going into the last sim, the Wolves were 49-32 and comfortably in first place.

Vanderhugen, the club's power hitting centerfielder, has been on the disabled list since the first week of the season. He ruptured his achilles tendon back in April against Omaha and was just now able to physically return to the club.

"It's definitely a big lift to the offense" said Madison GM Chris Wilson. "You can't really replace the production that Bolt provides for our offense. While other guys stepped up and kept us atop the division standings, we're excited to see how his return continues to propel this team forward."

Vanderhugen had a .927 OPS and 49 homeruns and 128 RBI last season.

Also returning from the disabled list was first baseman Jarvis Murphy. Murphy had missed a month of action with an oblique strain. The injury to Murphy left a void of a consistent .300 plus hitter and a .400+ on base hitter in the lineup.

"Again, I'm pleased with how guys stepped up in Murphy's absence," said Wilson. "We called up Ronnie Rambert to help fill in at 1b while Murph was on the DL. Rambert performed extremely well for us during his month long stint in Madison."

Rambert hit .313/.365/.479 with 2 homeruns and 9 RBI in 48 at-bats. That sort of production will likely get the 28 year old another cup of coffee in September with the big league club. Especially considering the struggles Madison's AAA team in Nashville have experienced this season.

With Vanderhugen and Murphy back in the lineup, the Wolves completed a 4-2 sim to increase their divisional lead to 13.5 games over 2nd place Omaha. That lead should continue to grow as the offense that ranks in the top 3 in nearly every offensive category in the JL just got a lot better...
