That's What Cheesehead: 33.20 - Raider Makes More History

Post by 7teen » Mon Dec 18, 2017 10:51 am

How many different ways can I write a team news about how Mons Raider steals bases? I think I'm up to about five already over three seasons and about to write another one. But when you have one of the most dynamic players in the league, you have to publicize the guy...

After stealing 117 bases in 2031 to break the record and then 152 last season to break his own record, Raider did something this past week that also puts him in the record books. In a game against the Edmonton Jackrabbits at home, Raider stole 6 bases to set the single game stolen bases record as reported by rival GM Ron Collins. The previous record for stolen bases in a game was 5 set by several different guys.

"It was just one of those games" said Raider. "I was getting a great read off the pitcher and knew I could steal the bases. So I did."

"He has the green light to run whenever he wants" said Wolves manager Millard Davis. "I'm not going to be the guy that puts the reigns on him. No way."

The Wolves won the game 12-4 thanks to 8 runs in the bottom of the first frame against the Jacks. Raider led off with a single before stealing 2nd and 3rd in the course of 3 pitches. He scored on a Steve Dempsey double. Raider would come up to bat again in the 1st inning and doubled into left center field. He stole 3rd before being stranded after two popups. It is also likely that Raider's 3 steals in one inning may also be a BBA record, but research doesn't show that at the moment.

In the 3rd inning, Raider singled and stole second base 3 pitches later. He walked in the 5th inning but was clogged on the bases behind Moreno and McLaughlin likely preventing him from advancing. But after a sac fly scored the runner from third, McLaughlin would steal 3rd on the second pitch with Raider swiping 2nd on the pitch giving him his 5th steal of the game. After a walk to Dempsey and another sac fly scored McLaughlin, Raider would steal 3rd on the first pitch to Don Draper with Dempsey taking 2nd on the pitch as well for his 6th and final steal of the game. With the Wolves up 11-3 after the inning, Raider and the Wolves decided it was time to stop running.

Raider concluded the game with a flyout in the 6th and another walk in the 8th inning.

The Wolves stole 9 bases in the game.

All of this game a day after the Wolves defeated the Jacks 17-2 where the team swiped 6 bases collectively, 3 by Raider and 3 more by Dempsey.

"It sucks" said Steve Demspey laughing. "I stole 5 bases in those two games and no one talks about me. It's always about Mons. This is getting old" Dempsey concluded with a grin.
