Gertie, the BBA Sexiest GM, and Mr Cruz...
GM Simon took the podium first, grinning ear to ear.
“We were fortunate to be in position to grab a guy like Carlos. He’s the kind of player who can reshape a franchise — power, patience, maturity, and a fasrball that sounds different when it connects with the catcher’s mit. We’re not thinking five years from now. We’re thinking now.”
Gertie, dressed in her purple suit with her trademark cane in hand, was next to speak.
“I heard those podcasters on the BBA Today yammerin’ about some ‘Super 2’ business. Let me tell you something. The only Super Two I know is what happens when you eat the seafood omelette and the steak-skillet combo at the centerfield Denny’s in Phoenix. Carlos is a Wolf. He’s in uniform. And he’ll be where he needs to be — on the field.”
The first year majority owner turned to a beaming Carlos Cruz, who then stepped up to the mic.
“It’s been a dream just to get here, but to do it with Madison? Man, this means everything. The energy, the fans, the trust from Gertie and Simon — I’m ready to go. And yeah, I’m wearing number 10. That’s been my number since Little League.”
Asked about his nickname, Cruz laughed.
“Bandsaw? That came from a scout who saw me tearing through pitching in high school like a bandsaw through plywood. It stuck. I guess there are worse things to be called.”
He finished with a message to the fans:
“Madison — I’m here to work, to win, and to make you proud. I want to bring championships to this city. Let’s get to work.”
The Wolves faithful didn’t need any more reason to get excited — but they’ve got one. Carlos “Bandsaw” Cruz is in the building. And he’s ready to hunt.
