Wolves Make First Move Under Gertie Regime, Acquire CF António Hernández from Montreal

Tuesday, November 7th, 2062 — Madison, WI — In the first official transaction under new leadership, the Madison Wolves have acquired 25-year-old former Montreal Blazers infielder Antonio Hernandez in exchange for 24-year-old 2B Jeffrey Loring, signaling the beginning of a new era for the franchise.

The deal, finalized earlier today, marks a clear direction shift for Madison’s front office under GM Simon and the emerging Gertie Regime.

“This move was about opportunity—for both sides,” said Simon in a press release announcing the trade. “We want to thank Jeff for everything he’s done since being drafted back in the seventh round of 2055. He’s worked hard, been a pro, and earned the chance to play at the next level. With the log-jam we currently have in our middle infield, we simply couldn’t guarantee him that chance here in Madison.”

Loring, a reliable and steady presence in the Wolves' system, will now get the opportunity to compete for a BBA roster spot with Montreal.

In return, Madison receives António Hernández, a versatile and athletic defender who has played extensively in center field and across the infield. While his offensive numbers at the BBA level have been inconsistent—owning a career slash line of .221/.264/.337 with 22 home runs and 89 RBIs over 997 at-bats—his defensive profile remains intriguing. Hernández has logged over 6,000 innings in center field with a .983 fielding percentage and a strong +52.7 zone rating.

“We don’t see Hernández as a shortstop,” Simon emphasized. “We see him as an outfielder. The athleticism is there, the instincts are there, and he’ll get an invite to spring camp to show us what he can do. It’s a fresh start, and we’re excited to see how he responds.”

The trade reflects Madison’s renewed focus on versatility, upside, and long-term depth, particularly in the outfield, where the team is looking to add speed and defense.

As the Gertie Regime begins shaping the roster from the ground up, today’s deal serves as a signal: the Wolves are entering a new chapter, and no position is set in stone.

“This is just the beginning,” Simon said. “We’re going to turn this thing around piece by piece.”
