It's baseball time again on the shores of Lake Michigan and our defending champs were forced to hire a new GM this off season and went with a virtual un-known in Matthew Nall. He gets the job after being the GM of the Anchorage Snowballs, a independent team out of Alaska. There was a lot of scrutiny to the team on this hire, but only time will tell if he can live up to the demands of such a major market.
Our new GM didn't make many moves this offseason, but he seems to have hit a homerun so far with Chicagos only trade of the season where they acquired second baseman Micheal "Mike D" Diamond. In the Black Soxs first 9 games he is leading the team hitting .342. He was unhappy with New Orleans and told us he feels like Chicago is the place he has been looking for to make a fresh start. The fans were not so happy about the new GM's decision to release Henry Jones, a long time fan favorite; although the fans didn't approve of this, this reporter supports his decision as the team needed the salary cap room and Jones was the highest payed player on the team. He had not been earning the salary of late, but I do hope he knows the fans of this great city will miss him.
As for the new season, the Black Soxs started slow going 0-5 in there first five games, only to come back and go 4-0 in the next four. Starting pitching has been strong with only Umeshirou Sojuro really getting beat up his first game out. As we all thought thought, the bullpen has struggled, with the exception of closer Richard Wasson, who already seems to be in midseason form with 1 win and 2 saves in the four Black Soxs wins this season. It seems that if the black soxs can survive the 7th and 8th innings this year we will be looking at another year of playoff baseball in Chi-town, but if they can't their could be a lot of letdowns at the the ballpark.
