The San Pedro de Macoris Green Sox announced Tuesday they have awarded the team’s Hitter of the Year award for 2044 to CF Fred Thompson. San Pedro is the Short Season Class A affiliate of the Chicago Black Sox.

Despite the gaudy numbers, Thompson is not considered a major league prospect, although he likely will move up to Class A Grand Junction next season.
“Not a major league prospect?” Thompson said. “I hit .371 – none of the wussies in Chicago even came close to that. They can take their stupid award and stick it where the sun don’t shine – although I’m not sure how you do that with a Tweet. They didn’t even send a real plaque. Just a stupid Tweet.”
San Pedro Manager Ernesto Garcia winced after being told of Thompson’s reaction.
“You know, these awards are supposed to help boost morale, not piss everyone off,” Garcia said. “We may need to revisit whether guys are going to want more than a Tweet.”
Black Sox management went to a Tweet-only format for this year's minor league awards after announcing a 6-year, $104 million extension for Chicago SP Amayas Moelling.
"We're not made of money, damn it, and those little plaques add up after awhile," explained team owner Vinnie Vitale. "Hell, I'm not even sending out Towers of Pears this year - more like Townhouses of Pears. That kid Thompson'll be lucky to get an Outhouse of Pears now, though."
