In one of the easier decisions of the decade, the AAA Carolina Flight this week named Romeu Tameiro as their Pitcher of the Year for 2043.

Tameiro was pretty much all-everything for the Flight this season.

The 21-year-old right hander went 20-5 with a 2.68 ERA and 2.73 FIP. He struck out 126 batters and walked 38 for a K/BB rate of 3.3, and compiled 5.7 WAR to lead the team.

Tameiro, who was Chicago's first-round pick in the 2040 draft, led the entire Warren Cox League in victories and WAR, and finished 5th in ERA.

He also piled up some nice honors, winning the Granville Sub-League’s Mitch Cain Hurler Award as the league’s best pitcher; made the All-Star Team; and also won Pitcher of the Month in May.

Tameiro went 2-0 in the playoffs, but came down with a nagging day-to-day triceps injury, prompting the Black Sox to shut him down just before the AAA championship series.

“It was a moderate strain,” said Black Sox trainer Wakie Mellouk, “and we estimated it would take three weeks to heal. This is a guy we’re looking at for the big league rotation next season, so we weren’t about to take any chances with his arm. Minor league championships are nice, but healthy BBA starters are nicer, thank you.”

Tameiro was pleased with the award, but admitted to feeling impatient as the year wore on and he was still in AAA.

“I want to pitch in Chicago,” he said. “Carolina was great, Carolina was fine, but it’s not the big leagues. That’s where I want to be.”

The BBA Scouting Consortium thinks he’s pretty much ready. Scouts rate his overall potential at 50/65, and say he is “projected to have the stuff and talent to be # 1.

Which means it’s all but certain that Tameiro will get his wish in 2044.

“We look forward to welcoming Mr. Tameiro to Spring Training and then to the Black Sox roster this coming season,” said Chicago General Manager Benny Vitale. “We know he will do great things for us.”
