Hot Take: This series began a brutal stretch of Chicago’s September schedule against a string of the Frick’s top teams, and the Sox are doing about how you’d expect: miserably. So, even though they hovered around .500 or just above for much of the season, you can expect they’ll finish the year well underwater. Spoiler alert: the Sox went 2-4 this week, losing this series, splitting with Hawaii and dropping the first game of a 4-game road set against Yellow Springs. Then, next week, they’ve got the rest of the Yellow Springs series followed by 4 at Nashville. Is 0-7 or 1-6 in that stretch out of the question? Not only is it possible, it’s probable. Will that at least translate to a better draft pick? Nah – because the Sox are mediocre-bad, not bad-bad. Mediocre-bad means you pick somewhere in the teens in the draft, which these days means you get mediocre talent, which breeds … mediocrity. Which, as it turns out, is our middle name. Chicago Mediocre Black Sox. Has a ring to it, no?

Life is a bit more beautiful when time is measured by the half inning rather than the half hour.
